The Medical Room is situated on Level 2 and is staffed by the School Nurse for most of the day. Students should attend the Medical Room only during break and lunch times, unless there is an obvious emergency, when students may be sent to the Medical Room with an appropriate note by a subject teacher All visits to the Medical Room will be recorded, with date, time, problem and action taken by the School Nurse. The school nurse provides the general medical support which students require during the school day. However, she will not deal with injuries/ ailments which have occurred outside of school. In such cases, students must be referred to their own doctor, health center or hospital casualty department. Except in extreme emergencies, the nurse is unable to accompany students to the hospital. In the event of students requiring emergency attention from the hospital, the school will telephone to make an appropriate arrangement with the contact person/persons indicated in the student's record. If we are unable to arrange transport for the student with the contact person, we will organize someone within the school to carry out this task and advise the parent/guardian as soon as possible about what is happening. As an important part of our records we need to record the medical details and/or special needs of all of our students e.g. diabetes, asthma, epilepsy. Therefore, it is essential that parents complete the relevant form at the start of each academic year to allow us to record all the necessary details. These details may be required by the school nurse if students become ill at school. Parents are encouraged to contact the school nurse if they wish to discuss any aspect of their son's health. The School Nurse can be contacted at any time during school hours.
