Applications are now open!
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to have a career in tech?
Do you enjoy programming, electronics or gaming, but not sure where they can take you?
Do you want to spend 5 days exploring the exciting and engaging work that happens inside a school dedicated to computing and engineering?
The School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EEECS) is offering 5 days of Work Experience to a cohort of 50 secondary students between the 8th – 12th June 2026.
The 5 day programme will provide students with the opportunity to experience a wide range of activities, including robotics, programming, VR/AR, electronics, a hackathon, as well as learning about the different careers’ options available to computing and electrical and electronic engineering students.
To be eligible, students should:
– an intention to take AS Level or A Level Mathematics is preferred, but applicants not taking Mathematics will still be considered
– have an interest in computer science, software engineering, business information technology, computing information technology and/or electrical and electronic engineering and computer engineering.
– be free all days to attend onsite in the Computer Science Building and Ashby Building, between 9.30am and 4.30pm Mon – Fri. There is a team based element to the programme, so non-attendance will impact your group.
If you want to apply to be considered for the programme, you must:
– have prior permission from your School and parent / legal guardian.
– complete and submit the form (see below)
– complete the parent/guardian permission slip (sent once your place is approved)
For any student who successfully obtains a place on the work experience programme, the applicant’s School must provide details of their insurer, and details of indemnity provided to the University in respect of the placement. (ask your careers teacher!)
All students participating on the programme will be given a full induction, including a compulsory health and safety talk. All sessions will be supervised by School staff. We expect students to remain in our buildings during each programme day and that should will make their own way to and from the university. The School reserves the right to end the work experience at any time.
