Apprentice Computer Assistant – Queen’s University Belfast

The Apprentice Computer Assistant roles sit within Digital and Information Services and forms part of Queens University’s IT Service Desk team, delivering frontline support to staff and students.  These roles are ideally suited to someone at the early stages of their career who is eager to build practical skills and gain recognised qualifications in a supportive, professional environment.

 

This is an excellent opportunity to begin a career in IT, allowing you to earn while you learn through a combination of practical experience and structured training.

 

In this role, you will provide first-line technical support across multiple channels, helping users resolve issues and make effective use of University systems. You will develop strong customer service and technical skills while gaining experience with devices, applications and cloud-based services.  You will also support Student Computing Centres, assist with equipment setup, and contribute to key activities such as student registration.  Working as part of a collaborative team, you will help deliver a high-quality user experience while building skills aligned to recognised industry standards and qualifications.

 

About the person:

We are looking for a motivated and customer-focused individual with a strong interest in developing a career in IT. You will have a willingness to learn, a positive attitude, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

 

You will demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to a non-technical audience. A commitment to delivering excellent customer service and supporting a diverse user community is essential.

 

Key responsibilities include providing first-line IT support, assisting users across multiple channels, supporting the setup and maintenance of IT equipment, and contributing to the smooth operation of Student Computing Centres.

 

 

Essential criteria:

  • Five GCSEs, at Grade C or above, which must include English Language and Mathematics.

 

Note: Apprenticeships are designed to develop new knowledge and skills at a higher level than you already have, or in a new vocational area.  You will not be eligible to apply if you already hold the same or similar qualification in the same vocational area e.g. ONC/D, HNC/D or degree in a computer related subject.
