Weekly hours: 37
Worktime: 9am-5pm

Purpose and Function of Post:
To observe, learn and gain an understanding of a wide range of engineering skills and processes whilst under the instruction of a Mentor within the skilled technical team. Subject to satisfactory overall performance and completion of the Level 2 Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, the apprentice will progress to Level 3 Apprenticeship and subject to satisfactory overall performance and completion of the Level 3 Apprenticeship will be offered a role as a Vehicle Maintenance Skilled Operative. This Apprenticeship will be rolled out over a 4 year period 2 years for Level 2 and 2 years for Level 3. The Apprentice will attend work 3/4 days per week & 1/2 days at the College depending if they require Essential Skills. The Apprentice’s progress will be monitored and may continue to years 2, 3 & 4 upon satisfactory reviews and completion of the course and performance on the job. On completion of Level 3, the situation will be reviewed re: progressing to Level 4 Advanced Diagnostic Techniques.
Responsibilities
- Learn the fundamental technologies heavy vehicle chassis design, engine, fuels, transmissions, hydraulic and air braking etc.

Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- GCSE Maths at Grade D or above and GCSE English at Grade E or above.

Further Information
Foundation Living Wage -£12.00 per hour subject to review during completion of apprenticeship.
