Summer Camps – ATU Donegal

ATU Donegal is thrilled to announce our upcoming summer camps in the following areas: Computing, Filmmaking, Sustainable Fashion Design, VEX Robotics, and Electronic and Mechanical Engineering Robotics. These camps will be held throughout the month of June. Each free of charge with lunch provided.

 

(Please note that these camps will only suit current Year 12 and 13 pupils who are off on study leave and if exams are completed).

 

Below, you will find detailed information about each camp and how students can register.

 

 

Computing:

The Department of Computing at Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Donegal will host 3 weeks of Computing Summer Camps in June 2024. There is no cost to attend this year’s camps, the aim of the camps is to improve the skills and knowledge of secondary school students in the field of Computing.

 

The Camp will take place from 10am to 3pm Tuesday to Friday and is open to children between the ages 12 to 17.  The camp will be on Campus in ATU Letterkenny, you need to register to attend the camp. The camp will incorporate the following workshops:

Places are limited so book early to avoid disappointment!

 

Filmpreneurs:

‘Filmpreneurs’ is a free week-long film making summer camp programme that will introduce young people to all things film:

screen writing, acting, cameras, lighting, audio and basic editing.

 

The camp will take place in the Donegal ATU campus, where students will have access to top class equipment and will be led by experienced facilitators to learn about all things film, writing and acting!

 

The programme is aimed at young students who have just completed TY, 5th year, or 6th year and have an interest in film making.

 

Lunch is included in the week. All you need is yourself armed with an interest and passion for all things film! This is an introductory course which will involve team work, collaboration, hands-on learning through workshops …. and fun!

Sustainable Fashion Design:

 

This week-long summer programme will introduce young people to upcycling fabric to create a jacket. You will cut out your fabrics, learn to sew your jacket and embellish it with a personalised print. You will also work within a small team to style a photoshoot with charity shop finds and gain an insight into the entrepreneurial side of fashion.

 

Awards will be given for the best jacket, best styled photoshoot and also the best advocate for sustainable fashion!

 

Who is it for?

14-17 year olds in full-time secondary school education who would like to experience a week in a Technological University to further their understanding of fashion design, fashion styling, garment making and its entrepreneurial potential!

 

Lunch is included during the week. All you need is yourself and an interest in sustainable fashion!

Electronic and Mechanical Engineering Robotics:

The Department of Electronic and Mechanical Engineering will host 3 days of an Engineering Summer Camp in June 2024. There is no cost to attend this year’s camps, the aim of the camps is to improve the skills and knowledge of secondary school students in the field of Electronic and Mechanical Engineering. Age 13-17 years old.

 

Students over the 3 days will cover;

Artificial Intelligence

Python Programming

Robot Football Competition

3D CAD Modelling

Mechanical Assembly

Gesture Recognition

3D Printing

3D Laser Scanning

 

Lunch is included during the week. All you need is yourself and an interest in Electronic and Mechanical Engineering!
