Chosen Charity for 2020

The aim of the CBS 10K/5K Run/Walk is to raise £3000 for Sables Nua which is a centre for the most vulnerable children in Kabwe, Zambia. It offers free food, clothing, medical care, accommodation, counselling, education and vocational training for over two hundred and eighty street children and other orphaned and vulnerable children. Sables Nua is a place of refuge, of hope, of happiness for some of the most needy children you could imagine. The children come from the streets of Kabwe; they have lost their parents to HIV or AIDS, been rejected by their families and forced onto the street to beg, steal or prostitute themselves in an effort to stay alive. The Centre has taken these children, in many cases literally, off the streets and given them a place of comfort and safety.

Last year’s race saw almost 200 registered for the 5k run and an equivalent number for the 10k run and several more participated in the walk. Some of the top athletes in the area and beyond took part, travelling from Belfast, Derry, Armagh, Antrim and further afield to participate and were joined by many CBS staff, and current and past pupils. It was a great family day and community occasion for the school with whole families participating and competing alongside our own students and students from with the Omagh Learning Community. The ‘Spirit of Enda Dolan’ Cup and Shield will also be presented with cash prizes for winners in a variety of categories.
