While the Education Authority are currently unable to offer work experience placements within Educational Psychology, they recommend that students interested in this career pathway seek experience in a school setting. Where possible, spending time with a Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo), as this can provide valuable insight into the nature of the work of the Educational Psychologist.
To further support students who are considering this profession the Education Authority are pleased to offer an Educational Psychology Information Session, which will take place on:
Date: Monday 09 March 2026
Time: 9.30am-12.30pm.
Location: Education Authority, 40 Academy Street, Belfast, BT1 2NQ
Proposed programme:
9.30 – 10.00: Registration and coffee
10.00 -12.00: Presentations covering:
- The role of the Educational Psychologist in the Education Authority
- Relevant work experience and routes into training including:
- The educational route,
- The clinical route,
- The Assistant Educational Psychologist route.
- Professional training: The student experience.
12.00-12.30: Informal discussion with Educational Psychologists and Assistant Educational Psychologists.
Please note that in-person attendance places are limited to 60 and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. We would ask that only those students who have a genuine interest in Educational Psychology apply. In the event of over-subscription, or where students prefer, remote access for the presentation sessions will be offered. A recording of the session will be made available for those who register an interest.
