Type: Full time

The role
RPS is looking for a Water Utility Operations Level 2 apprentice. Become an instrumental part of a team looking after one of life’s essentials. You’ll be part of a team that will stretch you, grow your problem-solving skills and connect us with communities across Northern Ireland.

Learning & Development
As an Apprentice, you’ll be completing the Water Utility Operations – Level 2
Apprenticeship candidates will normally have 3 to 5 GCSEs at grades C and above (including mathematics and English), or equivalent qualifications.
As an apprentice focussing on leakage, you’ll develop knowledge of working safely in a variety of locations and environments, some of which may be remote locations.
In addition you will:
- Use technical knowledge to identify areas that require further investigation due to leakage deciding on the most appropriate methods to identify and locate sources of leakage.
- Use technical knowledge to operate electronic location equipment, identify and locate underground water mains and services.
- Use hydraulic theories, principles and carry out valve operations to set-up, step-tests, maintain or alter district meter areas
- Use industry principles and measurement to estimate volumes of water lost through leakage
- Programme, deploy, retrieve, and interpret data from data logging equipment
- Apply procedures and their control measures to the network to minimise the risk of interruption of supplies to customers
Please note mandatory drug and alcohol testing is a requirement for this role.

Induction event:
A two-week induction designed to introduce you to our business, show you how we work and help you get the best possible start to your career.
Classroom training:
2-3 days per month completing classroom theories, exams, and course work
An Apprentice mentor
An experienced professional who will teach you about our work and guide your development
Regular performance reviews with your manager
Quarterly reviews to help you outline clearly defined goals and measure how you’re developing against them
National Qualification
Your apprenticeship will allow you to develop the skills and experience that you’ll require to become an expert Water Field Engineer within our leakage framework. During this time, you’ll combine on-the-job learning with formal, nationally recognised development training to gain your level 2 apprenticeship.

Using this knowledge, you will be able to inform robust solutions and decisions, demonstrating courage to see tasks through in their entirety. We show care to our colleagues and customers alike, so you’ll be able to successfully build relationships within our internal teams and customers, learning from other’s experience to improve your performance in the future.
