Black History Art Competition

Black art news

To celebrate Black History Month our Year 10 Art students had the option of entering the University of Ulster Creative Competition, whereby they had to create an original artwork, poetry or script on the theme of: “A celebration of inspirational black role models and their achievements”.

From the high calibre of entries across Northern Ireland two of our Year 10 students were recognised as Prize Winners for their exceptional Artwork entries.

Congratulations goes to Aodhan Travers in 10F who was awarded a joint first prize, along with 2 other entries from different schools. The judging panel consisting of the UU Head of Art & Design School, as well as academics and students from BAME network, commented on the creativity, distinctive style and extremely powerful message of Aodhan’s Portrait of Nina Simone. Aodhan will receive a £75 Amazon Voucher.

Our next prize winner was Dillion Montgomery who was awarded the Judges Prize and will receive a £20 Amazon Voucher. Again the judges commented on the creativity and research that Dillon expressed towards his ‘Inspirational Black Role Model’ of Muhammad Ali.

All Year 10 students who entered the competition will be awarded an Ulster University Scholar Pin. All entries will also be showcased by University of Ulster, within the next few weeks online.
