Are you interested in working within the Criminal Justice System? Are you curious about a career working directly with individuals, supporting them to make changes in their lives?
The majority of our staff deliver front line services dealing directly with our 4000 Service Users. This includes managing people on probation (those serving a community sentence or who have been released from prison subject to licence) and preparing pre-sentence reports for judges and magistrates in the courts to enable them to choose the most appropriate sentence. Staff also work in prisons preparing people for release into the community and we provide an information service for victims of crime.
Our probation officers are social workers, trained in risk assessment and management which are essential skills in this complex and challenging work. We also have a diverse workforce which includes Psychology staff, Probation Service Officers and Community Service Supervisors who all work collaboratively to reduce reoffending.
We’re hosting a 3-day work experience this June to give you experience and insight into three key roles within the PBNI.
– Probation Officer (PO)
– Probation Service Officer (PSO)
– Forensic Psychology
Over the 3 days you will delve into the main tasks associated with each role, learning key skills to help support service users subject to statutory community supervision.
You will take part in case-studies and role-plays to immerse yourself into the roles of PBNI staff, learning from professionals within these roles. You will also learn what qualifications and experience are needed to pursue a career within the Probation Board for Northern Ireland.
