IT Sligo Open Day

IT Sligo Open Day November 2021-340

Friday November 12th from 4pm to 6pm – This is a fully virtual event. There will be live panel discussions and opportunities to speak with our academic and support staff. We will also make the event available after it has finished to allow those who missed it to view it at a later date.

 

Saturday November 13th from 10am to 3pm – This is a fully on-campus event. There will be subject specific workshops and talks, campus tours plus opportunities to talk with academic and support staff. Accommodation providers, our clubs and societies, Students’ Union and more will be present on the day also. Numbers for our on-campus event are limited, with spaces filling up fast. We recommend those interested in attending our on-campus event to Register for the IT Sligo Open Days as soon as possible.

 

Technological University Designation

The Presidents of the three institutes of technology in the Connacht-Ulster Alliance (CUA) on Thursday 28th October 2021, warmly welcomed the announcement by the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Simon Harris, TD, that GMIT, LYIT and IT Sligo have together been approved for designation as a Technological University (TU). The new TU will offer almost 600 academic programmes from pre-degree to doctoral level to a student population of 20,000+ supported by over 2,200 staff. Sligo Science Festival

The 2021 Sligo Science Festival is set to return with a bang this winter with an eight-day programme packed with exciting events to suit all ages.  Running from the 6th – 14th of November, this year’s Sligo Science Festival, sponsored by Science Foundation Ireland and AbbVie will be a blended delivery of live, in person events and online workshops and talks. The Sligo Science Festival is part of SFI’s national Science Week with this year’s themes being; “Explosive Science” and “Creating Our Future”.

The eight-day event kicks off this weekend with the ever popular Science Fair in association with AbbVie.  This year will see a return to on-site activities, both indoors and outdoors with a fun and informative science packed weekend for all the family at the Institute of Technology Sligo. The festival highlights STEM engagement throughout the week by delivering science shows, workshops, demonstrations and displays, together with a comprehensive programme of talks, road shows, exhibitions and debates for all ages and backgrounds.  The programme of events range from rocket workshops to science circuses and talks on forensics to how cats arrived in Ireland.
