Duration: 21st June 2021      Insight Session – 2 – 4pm.

Application Closing Date: 31st May 2021

Ever wondered how large infrastructure projects like flood defences, roads and bridges get built?

At the heart of these impressive schemes are an array of skilled technical and non-technical professionals who work in the civil engineering sector.

Our session will take a look inside the world of civil engineering and examine the whole lifecycle of a project: from the early negotiations, planning and design; through costing and estimating the resources required; to on-site delivery and construction.

Along the way, we shall look at important considerations relating to large projects, such as environmental factors; ensuring the health and safety of workers; liaising closely with the communities where we are working and working alongside other companies and experts to make a scheme a reality.

Please do not assume this session is solely for people studying engineering because it’s not just a story of people in high-vis jackets and hard hats.

To run a successful civil engineering business, you need a whole raft of support services from planning and quantity surveying through to human resources and quality assurance professionals.

So, while this session will be of interest to students studying engineering and other STEM subjects, it also relevant to all young people keen to hear about what it is like to work in what is an exciting and challenging but also incredibly rewarding sector.
