Matthew Kerr, Year 11 Art & Design Student swoops 1st Prize Award in ‘Families Moving On’ Artwork Competition

Mathhew Kerr 1st Prize Winner ‘Families Moving On’ news

Massive congratulations to our Year 11 GCSE Art & Design student, Matthew Kerr who has been awarded first place in the ‘Families Moving On’ artwork competition. To mark the 25th Anniversary of the Omagh bombing, local post primary schools were invited to submit artworks reflecting Omagh 25 years on, following the bomb in 1998.

The key concepts of the submission were to create artworks which reflect peace, healing, hope and a shared future. Matthew created an excellent design, for which he was awarded first prize out of all six post primary schools in Omagh. His excellent graphic design in landscape genre, incorporates an image of the glass heart sculpture which is located at the site of the bombing in the centre of Omagh. He also used bright positive colours contrasting against silhouettes of a family walking towards the sunrise encapsulated sculpture. Well done Matthew on an excellent piece of graphic design.

Matthew accompanied by his Art Teacher Ms Grew attended the presentation ceremony on Monday 26th June.

All entries for this competition will be displayed in a public exhibition at Omagh Library two weeks prior to the 25th Anniversary of the Omagh bombing. The winning entries will also be used as part of future branding and logo design for the ‘Families Moving Group’.
