Online STEM mentoring – Exploring STEM futures

STEM Learning in partnership with Brightside are offering a free mentoring programme for students aged 13–19 who are interested in STEM subjects or STEM-related careers.

Through the programme, students can:

  • Receive real-world advice on subject knowledge, career pathways, and interview techniques.
  • Work at their own pace, building skills and confidence throughout the course.
  • Gain a certificate of participation, which can be added to CVs and personal statements.

Mentoring for Years 10-12 focuses on providing career insights into sectors of interest for the young person. Years 13/14  receive mentoring on ‘life after school’, whether that be Higher Education,
Apprenticeships or preparing for employment.

This cohort will run from 29 September 2025 to 12 December 2025.

Students can message their mentor at any time during the 11-week mentoring period and mentors will reply as soon as they can. Conversations take place via text-based messaging, a bit like email, so mentors and mentees do not need to be online at the same time.

STEM Ambassador mentors are ready to answer questions on topics such as the range of STEM career or education options available to young people, the pathways into different sectors and the essential professional skills required for success. Students also have access to a suite of fun and fascinating “Bright Knowledge” resources on matters such as health and wellbeing, independent living, money and housing to help prepare them for the future.

To enrol, pupils can scan the QR code on the flyer above.  As the sign-up period is limited, I would encourage interested students to register as soon as possible.
