Queen’s Performance Sport has announced the opening of its scholarship schemes for the 2022/23 academic year. Both prospective and current students are invited to apply for a range of scholarships which include stipends of up to £5000 per year, as well as professional services in strength and conditioning, physiotherapy, nutrition and sports psychology.

Announcing the opening of the schemes, which include the Elite Athlete Programme, Sports Bursary and Sports Academies pathways, Performance Sport Manager Aidan O’Rourke said:

“We are delighted to once again offer our sector-leading scholarship schemes for talented athletes competing across a wide range of sports. Each year we make significant investments in our five key sports at Queen’s, GAA, hockey, soccer, rugby and rowing. In addition to those sports, our Elite Athletes and Bursary scholars are also drawn from sporting worlds as diverse as cycling, athletics, figure skating, and gymnastics.”

Successful applicants to the Elite Athlete Programme will receive stipends of either £3000 (Tier 2) or £5000 (Tier 1) in addition to support provided by world-renowned strength and conditioning coach, Mick McGurn, and physiotherapy through Kingsbridge Private Hospital. Performance Skills coach, Hugh Campbell, who has worked with top athletes across a wide array of sports, supports students on their journey through Queen’s with regular meetings and development sessions. Successful candidates are also eligible to apply for Academic Flexibility to help manage coursework deadlines at busy times.
