Ulster University Computing, Engineering and IT Systems Workshop

For the 9th consecutive year the School of Computing, Engineering and Intelligent Systems at the Ulster University, Magee Campus, Derry/Londonderry will be running 2 day workshops on Tuesday 23rd& Wednesday 24th January 2018 for up to 80 students. This will include the following:

 

  1. ICT Workshop for up to 40 students
  • This workshop will involve a range of team-based project activities using, for example, using a Raspberry Pi, or creating a Computer-Aided Design (CAD) model.  When I receive the programme schedule with further information I will forward it to you.

Subjects Year 13 students should be studying: Maths (or have GCSE Additional Maths), Software Systems Development, Digital Technologies, GCE Applied ICT

 

  1. Engineering Workshop for up to 40 students
  • The School will provide the pupils with a taster of its Engineering courses that are on offer, in the areas of Electronics, Mechanical, Electrical and Renewable Energy, as well as other subject areas, Computer Science, Information Technologies and Computer Games Development.

 

Subjects Year 13 students should be studying: Maths (or have GCSE Additional Maths), Technology & Design, Engineering, Chemistry, Physics & Biology

 

GENERAL POINTS TO NOTE:

Ulster University School of Computing, Engineering and Intelligent Systems will be offering parallel workshops in Engineering and Computing for the following reasons:

Ø  They want to provide pupils with an insight into Engineering, as well as Computing, and an understanding of this diverse subject, with a view to helping them make an informed decision to study the subject at University.

Ø  This will be an excellent opportunity for pupils to gain an insight into the work of the School and sample life at University.  It will be an opportunity to explore a possible career path engaging in discussions with key staff.

Ø  The opportunity is available to YEAR 13 AS STUDENTS ONLY who are genuinely interested in the subject, reliable and mature.

Students MUST complete the attached Work Experience Application Form and return it to me ASAP. The closing date for applications will be Friday 17th November 2017.
