UNIQ 2025 – The University of Oxford’s flagship outreach programme

University of Oxford UNIQ programme-340

What is UNIQ?
UNIQ is a completely free programme, offering both an in-person summer residential and an online support programme. The online programme runs from April to November, mostly through evening webinars and workshops, so we hope this will easily fit around your other commitments.

Every year we are really lucky to work with up to 1,600 amazing young people through UNIQ. On the programme, as part of your preparations for university, you will have the opportunity to explore your favourite subjects beyond the school curriculum with Oxford students and teachers who love them too!

If you haven’t yet made up your mind on what to study at uni – we are here to help! You will have some dedicated time to really consider your university options. You will also receive advice from our admissions experts on how to make your uni application as competitive as it can be. It goes without saying that, when the time comes, we hope you will choose Oxford, but what you will learn will also help with your other applications.

Most UNIQ participants will come to Oxford for a four-day academic residential experience, mostly in July. On the residentials, you will get to meet Oxford academics and current students to learn first-hand what studying at Oxford could be like for you. You will experience Oxford teaching and tuition, stay in an Oxford college, and have an introduction to life as an Oxford student. You will be joining one of the most established programmes of its kind in the UK!

So, UNIQ offers you the opportunity to:

  • See if Oxford is right for you
  • Get a taster of university life, both academic and social
  • Explore a subject that interests you
  • Make the best application to Oxford
  • Meet people and make new friends!

Who is UNIQ for?
UNIQ prioritises UK state school students with good GCSE grades from backgrounds that are underrepresented at Oxford.

To apply, students have to be:

  • In year 12 (England and Wales), Year 13 (Northern Ireland), or S5 (Scotland) or equivalent
  • Studying at a UK state school

We use a mixture of information in the selection process for UNIQ each year, including socioeconomic background (whether an applicant has ever been eligible for Free School Meals or has ever been in care) and information about prior academic attainment. But don’t worry about this too much – if you are in your penultimate year at a UK state school and want to join UNIQ, apply and we will do the rest!

You can also read more about the UNIQ selection criteria on the UNIQ website.
