How will UNIQ help you shape your future?
Hello! We are back to tell you about the exciting courses you can explore with Oxford tutors and current students while on UNIQ – as well as offering our top tips on how to choose.
Remember applications open on 12 December so don’t wait to start exploring your 30+ course options for our free outreach programme!
As part of their UNIQ application, everyone makes a first and second course choice. This means that if your first choice is oversubscribed, we know what else you’d like to do instead. Don’t think that your UNIQ course has to be the same one you go on to study at university. We understand you are probably still deciding this. In fact, we really hope that coming on UNIQ will help you make up your mind about your university course choice and decide how you want to shape your future.
Studying a course on UNIQ also offers the rare opportunity to find out what it would be like to study this particular subject at Oxford. You will have the chance to explore your subject alongside others who share this interest. You will go to lectures, check out amazing libraries, talk to students and get feedback from our tutors – just like Oxford students do. And all for free!
Here are our top tips on choosing your UNIQ course:
- Before doing anything else, go to the UNIQ website.
- Read carefully the summary of any UNIQ course that you are interested in. There’s a really handy option to filter by groups, so you can discover subjects related to your current interests.
- Check if you need any particular A-levels or equivalent to do the course as an Oxford degree.
- Bear in mind that you need to tell us both your first and second UNIQ course choices.
- Don’t assume you should pick courses you are already studying at school or college.
- Don’t dismiss the courses which might be less familiar to you. Some courses not offered at school or college might be a great choice and allow you to try something completely new. They may also combine subject areas you already enjoy, for example Biochemistry. Or a course may even allow you to specialise in a specific area of a subject you particularly enjoy, for example Materials Science.
- Don’t necessarily go for one with an obvious career path. The skill set Oxford students develop during their degrees means that they are highly sought after by employers. Whatever their course, Oxford students are likely to have a broad range of career options when they leave.
- It sounds obvious but choose something you love the sound of and want to know more about.
- Don’t let anyone persuade you otherwise!
