10k Run and 5k Run/Walk

On Saturday 20th February the CBS had a very memorable day with our annual 10k Run and 5k Run/Walk.

There were almost 200 registered for the 5k run and an equivalent number for the 10k run and several more participated in the walk. Some of the top athletes in the area and beyond took part, travelling from Belfast, Derry, Armagh, Antrim and further afield to participate and were joined by many CBS staff, and current and past pupils. It was a great family day and community occasion for the school with whole families participating and competing alongside our own students and students from within the Omagh Learning Community. The school is delighted with the level of support it received and would like to thank all participants for supporting the event.

The ‘Spirit of Enda Dolan’ cup was also awarded to David Gormley who was the first CBS student to complete the 10K race. The 5k ‘Spirit of Enda Dolan’ shield went to top CBS athlete Dan Haigney. Winner of the 10K Male Open was Conan Mc Caughey (Derry Track Club) in a time of 32:32 and winner of the 10K Female Open was Ester Dickson who completed the course in 39:01.

The school would also like to thank all the staff, students and members of Omagh Harriers who marshalled the two courses. Also, thanks goes to Terry Canning, who was the race director, and again members of Omagh Harriers who brought their expertise and provided a very professional approach to the event with their signage, laying out the course and their organisation of the competitors at the start and finish of the races.

All profits from the race will be donated to the Changa Changa Primary School in Zambia which is part of the Edmund Rice Schools network. Omagh CBS received excellent support from a number of sponsors and we would like to acknowledge and thank them all for their support and generosity.
